Highlands and Islands Region covers a huge geographical area: larger than Belgium, over 10 per cent of the land mass of the UK, but with only a small, widely dipersed population. Small businesses are more important to the economy of the area than in most other parts of the country but the problems of distance and remoteness from the main markets can present significant challenges.The FSB is therefore particularly important in terms of the support it provides to small businesses in the area, and in providing a forum through which issues of relevance to small businesses can be pursued.
